Sierra FFA sent their 3 parliamentary procedure teams and one of their creed speakers to compete at Minarets High School on January 28th. The novice team won first place at their very first competition. The team was comprised of Chairwoman Sharon Winn, Chair One Jayden Baker, Chair Two Baylee Drew, Chair Three Keira Heberlein, Chair Four Makenna Boul, Chair Five Colby Perry, and alternate Madeline Wait. All six positions won an outstanding chair for their team. This year, there were two competing advanced teams. Advanced team “A” was made up of Emma Actis, Cody Heirendt, Keilani Mendenhall,Cody Hall, Ian Hamilton, Jordan Coburn, and Seth Chrisman. The team won fifth place, and Seth received outstanding Chair Five debater. The advanced team “B” took home first place, and was made up of: Macy Myers, Kathleen Marsh, Taylor Collins, Derek Maxwell, Kennedy Newton, Shane Wyman, and Kelsey Mehling. Kathleen, Taylor, Derek, and Kennedy won Outstanding debaters in Chairs One through Four. The teams were coached by Robert “Boss’ Actis and Rich Vandenack. Colby Perry competed in the Creed Recitation competition and won 2nd out of 40 competitors. They compete again on February 4th at Modesto Junior College. - Kathleen Marsh

On January 26th, 14 Sierra FFA competitors competed at Clovis East High School against 14 different schools in the annual EFM Sectional Speaking Contest. In the Creed Recitation Competition: Madeline Wait competed, Hayden Tarr won 1st place, and Colby Perry won 3rd place. For Impromptu speaking, Ian Hamilton received 5th place. In Extemporaneous speaking: Seth Chrisman won 1st place and Macy Myers won 2nd. The Prepared Public Speakers were successful with a 3rd place win from Derek Maxwell, Shane Wyman winning 5th place, and Kelsey Mehling and Emma Actis competing well also. Lastly, Sierra FFA sent four students to compete in the Job Interview competition. Austin Dudley- Nelson competed in finals along with Cody Heirendt, Kennedy Newton won 1st place for the second year in a row, and Taylor Collins won 5th place. All of those who placed 4th place or better will be competing in the Regional Competition and representing Sierra FFA. We wish them luck.
On January 21st, Sierra FFA’s Natural Resources team competed in the Winter CDE state finals. The team was comprised of Macy Myers, Jesse Tyler, Brian Austin, Juliana Sullivan, and Seth Chrisman. Overall they placed 3rd in the state. They received 1st in Oral Presentation, 2nd in Packing, 3rd in Animal ID, 3rd in Plant ID, 3rd in Knowledge, and 3rd in Skills. They were coached by Ag Advisor, Brad Wyman. The team was very successful this year, and are coming back next year to compete again.
On January 7th, the Sierra FFA Natural Resources team competed locally at Minarets High School. They were coached by FFA Advisor Brad Wyman. The team took first place and was comprised of Seth Chrisman, Macy Myers, Jesse Tyler, and Brian Austin. Brian Austin was awarded first high individual, Seth Chrisman got second high individual, and Macy Myers got third. In the Animal Identification subcategory, Brian Austin got first, Jesse Tyler got second, and Seth Chrisman got third. On the Knowledge test, Seth Chrisman got the first high score, and Macy Myers got the third high score. Finally, the team got first collectively in the packing subcategory. Their next competition is on January 14th.
