Its that time of year again, during the first two weeks of October, Sierra FFA sends some of its greatest members to compete with their livestock at the Big Fresno Fair. This year, the members had great success in both market classes and showmanship classes. Swine, beef, goats, and sheep were all brought to the fair this year with varying levels of success.
The first week of fair went to the goat team. This team was comprised of Anne Price, Baylee James, and Kennedy Newton. Kennedy Newton earned Supreme Commercial Doe, and two first places in both of her market classes. Baylee James won 3rd in her dairy goat breeder class and 2nd in novice showmanship. Anne Price placed second and third in her Alpine doe breeder classes. The second week of fair was for the beef, swine, and sheep teams. First off, the beef team was made up of: Brian Austin, Jayden Baker, Daygan Cross, Ian Hamilton, Jesse Heirendt, Baylee James, James Lujano, Harley McCorkle. Kelsey Mehling, Keilani Mendenhall, Macy Myers, Mason Tarr, Jesse Tyler, and Shane Wyman. Brian Austin earned 4th in market; Jayden received 2nd in his market class; Daygan got 2nd in his market class, and 7th in showmanship. Harley earned 2nd in her feeder class, Jesse Heirendt earned 3rd in her market class and 2nd in showmanship. James received 7th in his market class, and 4th in showmanship; Kelsey Mehling was given 4th in her market class; Keilani Mendenhall earned 5th in her market class; Jesse got 4th in his market class; Mason was awarded the Reserve Champion Black Cross Steer, Reserve Champion Bred by Exhibitor, and Champion Rate of Gain. Macy received 3rd in her feeder class, and 6th in market she was also awarded 12th in advanced showmanship; lastly Shane Wyman earned 1st in his market beef class. Next up is the swine team composed of: Jammie Baker, Jordan Coburn, Lacey Dority, Wyatt Dority, Lauren Gillihan, Cody Hall, Cody Heirendt, Baylee James, Sarah Montgomery, Ann Price, Michala Riemath, Jocelynn Rodriguez, Alyssa Rue, Julianna Sullivan, Logan Vandenack. Jammie earned 2nd in her market class; Jordan received 3rd in his market class; Lacey competed and earned 4th in her market class, Wyatt received 5th, Justin got 4th in his duroc class, and1st in his yorkshire class; Lauren Gillihan received 3rd in her market class, Cody Hall got 8th in his market class; Cody Heirendt earned 5th and 7th places in her market classes, and earned 10th overall in advanced showmanship; Baylee got 1st in her class; Sarah Montgomery received 1st in her market class, Mason won Reserve FFA Crossbred, Champion rate of gain, 1st place in his showmanship class, and 1st place in Round Robin, Michala got 1st in her market class; Jocelyn won 5th in her market class; Alyssa Rue earned 8th in novice showmanship, Juliana received 1st in her class; Ann Price competed and earned 6th in market, Hayden won Reserve Supreme Hog, Champion of Excellence FFA Swine Showman, Reserve Champion Hampshire, Champion Bred by Exhibitor, and 4th in frosh/soph showmanship ; lastly Logan got second in his market class. Next is the sheep team containing: Brad Actis, Emma Actis, Makenna Boul, Seth Chrisman, Grayson Galimba, Lauren Gillihan, Averie Harrington, Lily Sellers, Sharon Winn, and Shane Wyman. Brad Actis earned 3rd in market and 6th in the novice showmanship division, Emma Actis got 9th in her market class, Makenna Boul earned 4th in market, Seth Chrisman received 8th in market, Grayson Galimba earned 4th in Market, Lauren Gillihan received 1st in her market class, Averie Harrington got 6th in market and 4th in her showmanship class, Lilly Sellers earned 1st in her market class, Sharon Winn earned 5th in her market class. Shane Wyman received 1st and 3rd in both of his market lamb classes and was 6th in advance showmanship. Overall it was another great year at the Big Fresno Fair, and many of these fine showmen and women look forward to again showing at Chowchilla Fair in the spring.
