FFA is off to a great start in our CDE’s such as Natural Resources and Best Informed Greenhand, with both teams competing last week with great results. The freshman BIG team made up of Emma Actis, Anabella Johnson, Karter Bessey, Seth Chisman, Ian Hamilton, Jayden Baker, and Keilani Mendenhall won first place at the sectional Best Informed Greenhand competition last thursday at Sanger High School. Anabella Johnson tied for 1st place overall. Seth Chrisman tied for 2nd place, and Emma Actis got 3rd place. This was the team's first competition and is the second year in a row that Sierra has taken home gold from the East Fresno Madera sectional competition. The team is coached by student teacher Ashlee White. The two Natural Resources teams, with Shane Wyman, Frankie Sanchez, and Carson LeBoeuf composing the first team, and Jesse Tyler, Brian Austin, and Macy Myers composing the second team, competed last week at Mariposa for their first competition of the season, with Ag Teacher Brad Wyman as coach. They did excellent with the first team receiving 1st overall high team, 1st in Mule Packing, and 1st in Oral Presentation, and the second team received 3rd high team, 2nd in Mule Packing, and 2nd in Oral Presentation. Individually, Shane Wyman received first in the Knowledge Test; Frankie Sanchez received 3rd in Plant Identification and Animal Identification; Carson LeBoeuf received 2nd in the Skills Test and 3rd High Overall Individual. Members from both competitions have given a tremendous start to the CDE season for Sierra FFA.
