One of Sierra FFA’s advanced and one novice Parli Pro team traveled to Atwater High School on February 18th. They competed in three preliminary rounds, and then both teams placed 2nd in their respective divisions.

On Friday, February 17th three Sierra FFA members went to Visalia to interview for the chance to serve as a San Joaquin Regional Officer for the 2017-18 year. Shane Wyman, Kathleen Marsh, and Macy Myers went through a 4- step process. First they submitted a multi- page application and had to be accepted as a candidate, then they had to interview in front of the previous year’s team. Thirdly, they had to respond to a writing prompt in 150 words or less, and lastly they had to participate in a group activity under supervision. The next day, Kathleen Marsh and Macy Myers received a call saying that they were to be slated against another candidate to run for an officer position. Kathleen Marsh was slated for Regional Secretary, and Macy Myers was slated for East Fresno- Madera Vice President. The meeting was on the next Saturday the 25th. In the meantime, the two girls had to write and prepare a two- minute speech campaigning on why they want to serve as an officer. The day of, the two went through a 15 minute meet- and- greet with over 200 FFA members, they presented their speeches, and answered two questions about the Ag Industry and the FFA. At the end of the day, they did not get slated, but they were given a great opportunity that only 22 out of 65 candidates received.
Twenty Sierra FFA members travelled 6 hours to Chico State University to compete at their Annual Parliamentary Procedure Contest. The novice team was consisted of Sharon Winn, Madeline Wait, Baylee Drew, Kiera Heberlein, Makenna Boul, and Colby Perry. This team made it into the final six, and took home second place with Madeline and Colby achieving high debater for their position. The two advanced teams also performed well. The advanced Gold team also made it to the final six, and won fourth place. This team was made up of Emma Actis, Cody Heirendt, Keilani Mendenhall, Cody Hall, Jordan Coburn, Ian Hamilton, and Seth Chrisman. The advanced blue team was comprised of Macy Myers, Kathleen Marsh, Taylor Collins, Derek Maxwell, Kennedy Newton, Shane Wyman, and Kelsey Mehling. They won first place, and Macy, Kathleen, Derek, Kennedy, and Shane won high debater for their positions. The teams will compete again on February 18th at Atwater High School.
On February 4th, 13 FFA members traveled to compete at Modesto Junior College at their Invitational Parliamentary Procedure Contest. The two advanced teams competed in a test, three preliminary rounds, and one finals round. The Advanced Team “A” was comprised of Emma Actis, Cody Heirendt, Keilani Mendenhall, Jordan Coburn, Ian Hamilton, Seth Chrisman, and Cody Hall. They made it to finals and won 5th place out of 15 teams. The Advanced Team “B” was comprised of Macy Myers, Kathleen Marsh, Taylor Collins, Derek Maxwell, Kennedy Newton, Shane Wyman, and Kelsey Mehling. This team won first place, with Macy, Kathleen, and Shane winning outstanding debater for their position. The team competes again on February 10th at Chico State University.
