On Friday, March 16th seven members from Sierra FFA competed in Regional Speaking at College of the Sequoias in Tulare. The various contests include Creed Speaking, Job Interview, Prepared Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Impromptu Speaking. Macy Lloyd, Sierra FFA’s first seventh-grade member, earned third in Creed Speaking, which is the recitation of the 5 paragraph FFA Creed written by E.M. Tiffany. Shane Wyman earned third in Prepared Speaking, a contest in which a member writes and recites a speech on an agriculturally related topic of their choice. Seth Chrisman earned sixth and Macy Myers earned second in Extemporaneous Speaking where members are given thirty minutes to write and then recite a five-minute speech based on a topic the member drew from a hat. Michael Purkey competed and Cody Heirendt placed second in Job Interview, a mock interview contest that was designed to assist FFA members in career-readiness. Colby Perry competed and earned fourth in Impromptu Speaking which requires contestants to mentally prepare a one and a half minute speech on one of three topics drawn from a hat. Members who placed fourth or higher will be competing in State Finals on April 19th for their chance at a state title and eligibility to compete at National Convention in the fall. On Wednesday March 14th, Sierra FFA hosted the annual East-Fresno Madera Parliamentary Procedure Contest. Reedley FFA, Minarets FFA, and Sierra FFA participated. In the advanced contest Sierra A placed first with high chairs being awarded to Macy Myers, Kat Marsh, Shane Wyman, Cody Hall, and Kiera Heberlein and Ian Hamilton. Sierra B competed and placed second. The Sierra Novice team placed first and members Kacey Heirendt, Emily Herrick, Justin Coburn, Mikayla Purkey, and Logan Hamilton earned high chairs. This sectional contest determines eligibility to compete in the Region competition that will be held on March 23rd at College of the Sequoias in Tulare. Congratulations to all participants and a huge thank you to all parents and volunteers who made this event possible!
On March 3rd, two advanced teams and one novice team from Sierra FFA travelled to UC Davis to compete in parliamentary procedure. The advanced B team consisted of members Emma Actis, Keilani Mendenhall, Cody Hall, Jayden Baker, Makenna Boul, Baylee Drew, and Jordan Coburn. The Advanced A team consisted of Macy Myers, Kat Marsh, Kiera Heberlein, Ian Hamilton, Shane Wyman, Kelsey Mehling, and Kennedy Newton. Advanced A placed second overall. The novice team consisted of members Kacey Heirendt, Brad Actis, Mikayla Purkey, Emily Herrick, Logan Hamilton, and Justin Coburn. All teams did very will this weekend!
This year Sierra FFA also brought two members, Michael Purkey and Cody Heirendt, to compete in Job Interview. Members were to participate in a mock-interviews and fill out an application in order obtain a better understanding of the real-life interview process. Cody Heirendt placed second overall. On March 4th the Livestock team which consists of members Ann Price, Kelsey Mehling, Baylee James, Macy Myers, Shane Wyman, Mason Tarr, and Colby Perry competed at UC Davis . The A team which included members Shane, Colby, Mason, and Macy earned second in reasons, third in sheep and goats, and sixth in beef. The team placed fourth overall. All teams would like to thank all parents and volunteers who donated their time to make attending this competition possible. |
