Sierra FFA’s Parliamentary Procedure season is off to a promising start this year as the chapter’s Advanced and Novice teams competed at the Minarets Invitational competition on January 28. Sierra had three teams competing: two Advanced teams and one Novice team. The Novice team, which included Emma Actis, Cody Heirendt, Keilani Mendenhall, Jordan Coburn, Ian Hamilton, and Seth Chrisman, did extremely well for their first competition as they received 1st High Team in the Novice division; also, Ian Hamilton, Jordan Coburn, and Seth Chrisman each received High Chair recognition for their outstanding performance. Advanced Team B, who placed 2nd in the nation last year as a Novice team and included Macy Myers, Kat Marsh, Cody Hall, Taylor Collins, Kelsey Mehling, Shane Wyman, and Kennedy Newton, did an excellent job in representing the Chapter and won 3rd place. Advanced Team A, which was composed of Jordan Gillihan, Sydney Zumwalt, Austin Holt, Allisa Hastie, Derek Maxwell, and Josh Markos, also competed excellently, with the team receiving 1st place and with Jordan Gillihan, Derek Maxwell, and Austin Holt receiving High Chair recognition.
The Sierra FFA Natural Resources team, which was composed of Frank Sanchez, Allisa Hastie, Shane Wyman, and Carson LeBoeuf, and was coached by Sierra High Ag teacher Brad Wyman, participated in their last competition for the state title on Saturday, January 23, at Reedley College and did an amazing job in representing the Sierra FFA chapter, bringing home the title of 1st Natural Resources High Team in the state of California, as well as a plethora of individual and team awards for sub contests. Nine other teams from across California also participated in this event.
And as to the results of the contest, the Sierra FFA team did an excellent job and won 1st in a majority of the the competitions, and Sierra team members placed excellently in the individually scored sub-contests. Sierra won: 1st in Plant I.D. in the team placing, and individually with Frank Sanchez winning 1st, Carson LeBoeuf winning 2nd, and Shane Wyman winning 3rd; as well as the team winning 1st in Animal I.D., with Carson LeBoeuf winning 1st and Frank Sanchez winning 4th in the individual placings. The team also won 1st in the team placing for the Knowledge Test, with the individual placings of Carson LeBoeuf winning 1st, Allisa Hastie winning 4th, and Shane Wyman winning 5th. And in the last of the individual events, Sierra won 2nd in the team placing for Manipulative Skills, with Allisa Hastie winning 1st in the individual placing. In the team events, Sierra FFA won first in both Oral Presentation and Mule Packing. Needless to say, such excellent results gave Sierra the advantage it needed to win 1st High Team in the state, with Carson LeBoeuf winning 1st High Individual, Frank Sanchez winning 2nd High Individual, and Allisa Hastie winning 3rd High Individual, and Shane Wyman winning 6th High Individual. This success qualifies the Sierra FFA Natural Resources team for the National competition that takes place in Indianapolis in October. Sierra FFA would like to sincerely thank all community members who helped this team achieve such a great success, with a special thanks to Brad Wyman for his excellent coaching of the team, Jerry Jones for helping the team learn mule packing so well, and Reedley College for hosting the event. |
