Sierra FFA’s participation in this year’s Fresno Fair once more proved to be a success with many Chapter Members placing in their respective classes and with several achieving various higher placings, all of which were rightfully earned with each student’s hard work and commitment. This year Sierra FFA brought swine, beef, sheep, goats, and rabbits to the Fair with great results.
Initially the week before the beef, swine, and sheep were shown, Sierra’s goats and rabbits were shown by Chapter members Taylor Collins, Kennedy Newton, Macy Myers, and Shane Wyman, all of which showed goats; and Rachel Morningstar, who showed rabbits. Taylor Collins received Reserve Grand Champion Replacement Doe and Supreme Toggenburg Lamancha, as well as 3rd and 4th in Market Boer; Kennedy Newton received Supreme Market Goat and Supreme Doe Bred by Exhibitor; Macy Myers won 1st in Novice Showmanship and 3rd in Round Robin Goats; Shane Wyman received 2nd in Market, 2nd in Novice Showmanship, and Champion Bred by Exhibitor. Rachel Morningstar received Market Ready certification for her rabbits. The next week the other livestock species were shown, and Sierra FFA was well represented by the various swine, sheep, and beef cattle that were shown. For swine: Liz Adam’s pig was given Market Ready recognition; Jordan Coburn’s pig achieved Market Ready as well; Elias Day placed 6th in Market; Emma Day received 7th in Market; Hayly Day received 4th in Market; Justin Dement received 8th in Market, 6th place out of 120 in Advanced Showmanship, and 2nd in Pen of Two; Austin Dudley-Nelson received 3rd in Market and 6th in Showmanship; Diego Espinoza received 4th in Market; Cody Heirendt got 2nd in Market and 4th in Showmanship; Josh Markos received 2nd in Market; Derek Maxwell got 4th in Market; Cole Meinenger received 4th in Market; John Price received 7th in Market; Michael Purkey received 2nd in Market; Keenan Quintana received 8th in Market; Julie Rouse received 5th in Market and 5th in Showmanship; Juliana Sullivan got 5th in Market and 2nd out of 11 in Showmanship; Mason Tarr received 3rd and 5th in Market and 1st in Intermediate Showmanship; Logan Vandenack received 6th in Market; and Morgan Vandenack received York Champion and also won 2nd out of 120 in Advanced Showmanship. For sheep: Grayson Galimba got 3rd in Market; Makenna Galimba received 1st in Market and 10th in Showmanship; Lauren Gillihan received 2nd in Market and 4th in Novice Showmanship; Kelsey Mehling received 2nd in Market; Macy Myeres received 1st in Market with her AOB Champion Sheep, as well as 1st in Market and 6th in Intermediate Showmanship with her Natural Color Sheep; Patrick Sisk received 3rd in Market with his Hampshire; Mason Tarr received 2nd in Market with his Crossbreed; Haylee Weathers received 3rd in Market; and Shane Wyman received 1st in Market with his Hampshire, as well as 1st in Market with his Champion Crossbred Sheep, and also received 2nd in Showmanship. In beef: Brian Austin won 3rd in Market and 2nd in Showmanship; Jayden Baker received 4th in Market and 2nd in Showmanship; Daygan Cross received 3rd in Market and 4th in Feeder Class; Clay Ford received 2nd in Market and 7th in Showmanship; Cooper Ford received 2nd in Market and 2nd in Showmanship; Makenna Galimba received 1st in Market and placed 5th in the Breeding Heifer Class; Madison Hill received 6th in Market and 5th in Showmanship; Austin Holt received 3rd in Market, 3rd in Showmanship, and Reserve Champion Feeder Steer; Anabella Johnson received 3rd in Market and 1st in Breeding; Keilani Mendenhall received 3rd in Market, 6th in Showmanship, and 1st Grade Heifer; Kelsey Mehling received 2nd in Market; Drew Shwoerer received Market ready confirmation and placed 7th in Showmanship; Mason Tarr received 2nd in his Feeder Class, won Champion Registered Heifer, as well as Reserve Champion Registered Heifer, and 1st in Round Robin; Jesse Tyler received 1st in Market, 1st in Showmanship, 5th in his Feeder Steer Class, and 3rd in Round Robin; and Sydney Zumwaldt received 2nd in her AOB Class. All of the Chapter Members that competed are already looking forward to Chowchilla Fair and next year’s Fresno Fair so that they can once again show their great animals.
