Sierra FFA succeeded once again at the annual Big Fresno Fair! This tradition and experience has greatly enhanced our chapter members, through highlighting all of the time and effort that they put into these animals. For multiple months, each student spends countless hours each week training and caring for the animal they plan to show at the fair. They also had the opportunity to practice showing at our annual Sierra Classic in September for the Fresno Fair. Our teams consisted of swine, sheep, and beef.
The swine team consisted of thirteen Sierra FFA members, some showing multiple species. The team included Wyatt Ferguson, David Torres, Rylynn Edwards, Makayla McGrath, Zoey Witt, Jackson Wheeler, Aurora Parker, Hailey Witt, Lauryn Barr, Lexi Kirkpatrick, Kennedy Turner, Trinity Barr, Adieson Glass and Emma Turner. In the showmanship class of seniors, Makayla McGrath won the advanced division as well as 1st in the feeder class. Zoey Witt won 6th, and Aurora Parker won 7th. In the showmanship class of Freshman and sophomore, Hailey Witt won the entire division and Adieson Glass received 2nd as well as 1st with her breeder hog. A big congratulations to Hailey Witt for winning light crossbred champion, reserve FFA champion and reserve supreme champion market hog! The sheep team included Rylee Osterberg who won champion crossbred market lamb as well as 3rd for her Hampshire market lamb, she also won 2nd in freshman/sophomore showmanship and 2nd for her yearling ewe. Next was Gabi Watt who won 3rd for her market lamb. We then had Ariana Rodriguez who won 2nd for her market lamb. Luke Brown won 1st place for his crossbred market lamb and 9th for Freshman/sophomore showmanship. Last but definitely not least for the sheep exhibitors Sierra had Paige Beard who won champion natural colored market lamb and reserve champion Hampshire market lamb. She also won supreme champion ewe as well as FFA reserve champion market lamb and 1st in freshman/sophomore showmanship. Paige was 1st in a pen of 2 market lambs and 1st in the costume contest.Paige also received 1st with her ewe lamb and 2nd in master showmanship. The beef team consisted of Katelyn Page, Lillian Cardoza, Russell Judd, Colton Deluca, Samantha Paloutzian, Stevie Brisky, Tracer Brisky, Rylynn Edwards, Makayla McGrath, Caden Landers, Logan King, Thomas Rodriguez, Wyatt Gibson, Adeison Glass, Paige Beard, and James Ward. Congratulations to Russell Judd for winning Reserve Champion Senior Showmanship and Adieson Glass who won Champion in Freshman/Sophomore Showmanship. Adieson Glass also won Reserve Champion AOC Steer and Logan King had the Reserve Champion Commercial Heifer. Congrats to Paige Beard, Makayla McGrath, Russell Judd, Adieson Glass, and Hailey Witt for getting as far as competing in the Round Robin event. In the Freshman/sophomore class Adieson Glass won 1st, Paige Beard won 2nd and Hailey Witt won 6th. In the senior class Makayla McGrath won 2nd and Russell Judd won 5th. A huge congratulations to everyone who worked hard and did their very best at the fair. A big thank you also to those who helped and made this Fresno fair a great success!
