On Thursday April 30th 2015, Sierra FFA hosted its annual end of the year banquet which celebrates its student’s successes and those that have excelled and went above and beyond the needs of the classroom. The Ag memorial scholarship was awarded to 3 students this year for excelling in the agricultural programs offered at Sierra High School; Kelby Cross, Josie Woodcock, and Bowen Kehn all received the scholarship. The honorable Ken Olson award was given to Channing Christian. The reputable Eules Grigsby scholarship was given to Elias Santillan, Seth Hill, and C.J. McDonald. Every year Sierra FFA honors their students that have outstanding participation in FFA events with a top 5 award along with a trip to a predetermined destination as a reward. For the freshmen the top 5 students were: Macy Myers, Kennedy Newton, Kat Marsh, and Mason Tarr; Shane Wyman was top for the freshmen. The top 5 sophomores were: Madison Hill, Taylor Collins, Justin DeMente, and Josh Markos; Derek Maxwell was top for the sophomores. The top 5 juniors were: Jordan Gillihan, Austin Holt, and Sydney Zumwalt; Hailee Ashbrook was top for the juniors. The top 5 seniors were: Hunter Eldridge, Kelby CrossJosie Woodcock, and Cody Hefley; the top senior was Bowen Kehn. The Lyn Doc Ford award awards the Top Boy and Girl of all of the grades; the Top Boy was Bowen Kehn and the Top Girl was Macy Myers. The honorary chapter degree was awarded to Kirstin and Graydon Cross. With the end of the year comes the end of the old officer team. The newly elected officers and their positions were: Austin Holt, President; Allisa Hastie, Vice-President; Sydney Zumwalt, Treasurer; Derek Maxwell, Secretary; Carson LeBoeuf, Reporter; Josh Markos, Sentinel; Daygan Cross, Historian; and Mason Tarr, as Parliamentarian.

Sierra FFA’s parliamentary procedure teams of novice an advanced participated at the 87th annual state FFA leadership conference with Novice receiving an astounding 1st place winning the state competition and going to national finals to represent California and compete against the top team from all 50 states and advanced having a remarkable 4th place. The State winning Novice Parliamentary procedure team consisted of in Chair 5 Shane Wyman, Chair 4, Kennedy Newton Chair 3, Cody Hall Chair 2 Taylor Collins, Secretary Kat Marsh and the chairman Macy Myers. Shane Wyman was high chair 5, Taylor Collins was high chair 2, Kathleen Marsh was high and secretary, and Macy Myers was high chairman. The alternates for the team were Kelsey Mehling, Mason Tarr, and Michael Purkey. Great job Sierra FFA Novice team! The advanced team consisted of Chair 5, Austin Holt Chair 4, Carson LeBoeuf Chair 3, Derek Maxwell, Chair 2, Sydney Zumwalt, Secretary Jordan Gillihan, and Chairman Allisa Hastie. The team received an outstanding 4th place out of 24 finalists representing all regions of California. The alternates for the advanced team were Cooper Ford and Josh Markos. The Novice Parliamentary Procedure Champion of the 87th annual State FFA competition consisted of(Left to Right): Alternate Mason Tarr, Outstanding Chair 5 Shane Wyman, Chair 4 Kennedy Newton, Outstanding Chair 2 Taylor Collins, Outstanding Chairman Macy Myers, alternate Kelsey Mehling, Outstanding secretary Kathleen Marsh, alternate Michael Purkey, Chair 3 Cody Hall, and their coach Mr. Robert Actis. Sierra FFA participated at the annual Reedley Junior College Field day with a livestock judging team and a BIG team. The livestock team consisted of 1 team with 4 members and another 4 individuals participating individually. Daygan Cross, Mason Tarr, Taylor Collins, Austin Dudley-Nelson, Kelby Cross received 34th, 15th, 66th, 41st 23rd, respectively out of 83 participants. Hailee Ashbrook, Makena Galimba, Justin DeMent participated in the event. The BIG team got first out of 19 teams and had 3 members. Shane Wyman received 1st high, Kat Marsh 3rd, and Macy Myers 8th out of 67 people and Kennedy Newton participated.
Sierra FFA participated at the annual Regional speaking competition located at College of Sequoia in Tulare with 6 members participating in 3 events. In creed, Macy Myers received 4th, Shane Wyman received 6th, and Kat Marsh participated in the event. In impromptu, Derek Maxwell received 3rd and Taylor Collins participated in the event. In extemporaneous speaking Allisa Hastie received 2nd overall. Macy Myers, Derek Maxwell, and Allisa Hastie will be going to State Finals on April 16th 2015 at the Fresno convention center in their respective competitions.
