Sierra FFA hosted its annual Chapter Awards Banquet Friday June 8, 2018. Each year a night is set aside to honor all of the accomplishments and successes our students have achieved. For the first time the ceremony was moved from the cafeteria to the Mary Barton Memorial Park on the Sierra High campus. This year’s theme was “Be Fearless.” We recognized our first junior high Discovery Degree recipient, Macy Lloyd, as well as 23 students who were awarded the Greenhand Degree, 14 who received the Chapter Degree and 3 that earned the State Degree. We also took time to appreciate those involved in the Leadership Development Events: Opening and Closing, Public Speaking, and Parliamentary Procedure as well as the Career Development Events: our first Veterinary Science team, Livestock Judging and state winning Natural Resources. Every year, Sierra FFA awards a select few with the Honorary Chapter Degree for all they do that benefits the association. This year, it was presented to Tami Myers, Amy Alkire, Wesley Messer and Dave Edinborough. Those members who are most active in the FFA throughout the school year are honored with a top 5 award for each grade. Along with this, these “Top 20” students are given the choice to attend a predetermined trip as a reward.
