On Friday, February 17th three Sierra FFA members went to Visalia to interview for the chance to serve as a San Joaquin Regional Officer for the 2017-18 year. Shane Wyman, Kathleen Marsh, and Macy Myers went through a 4- step process. First they submitted a multi- page application and had to be accepted as a candidate, then they had to interview in front of the previous year’s team. Thirdly, they had to respond to a writing prompt in 150 words or less, and lastly they had to participate in a group activity under supervision. The next day, Kathleen Marsh and Macy Myers received a call saying that they were to be slated against another candidate to run for an officer position. Kathleen Marsh was slated for Regional Secretary, and Macy Myers was slated for East Fresno- Madera Vice President. The meeting was on the next Saturday the 25th. In the meantime, the two girls had to write and prepare a two- minute speech campaigning on why they want to serve as an officer. The day of, the two went through a 15 minute meet- and- greet with over 200 FFA members, they presented their speeches, and answered two questions about the Ag Industry and the FFA. At the end of the day, they did not get slated, but they were given a great opportunity that only 22 out of 65 candidates received.
