On November 4th, Sierra FFA took two teams to a welding contest at Yosemite High School. The goal for the competitors was to build a fire pit in six hours with certain rules and guidelines. It had been about 19 years since Sierra High had participated in any welding competitions. After all of the hard work, measuring, cutting and welding, the teams had high hopes of placing. However, little did Sierra know they would bring home 1st and 4th place. The 4th place team consisted of Russell Judd, Wyatt Gibson, Paige Beard and Nayliah Gibson as the team's assistant. This team won a brand new oxy acetylene torch set. The 1st place team consisted of Jackson and Riley Smith and Skyler Stevens. This team won a brand new miller welder. Though Sierra knew that they did not have the newest or best equipment, all they needed was a little bit of teamwork and ended up coming home with around 1,600 dollars worth of prizes. Our Sierra welders look forward to competing in the upcoming welding contests.
