This year, on May 16th through the 22nd, Sierra FFA traveled to Chowchilla to continue it’s trend of competing in the Chowchilla- Madera County Fair. They had a very successful time due to the efforts of Mr. Vandenack, Mr. Wyman, and Mr. Scott Cardoza coaching our goat, sheep, swine, and beef teams. They would like to thank these individuals for their continued work throughout the year.
First off is our goat team which consisted of Kennedy Newton and Macy Myers. Kennedy received 1st in her market class with meat goats; she also received 2nd in intermediate showmanship, and 3rd in advanced showmanship. Macy Myers won 1st in novice showmanship, 1st in intermediate showmanship, and 3rd in advanced showmanship with her dairy goat. Next is our sheep team comprised of Kelsey Mehling, Sydney Zumwalt, Macy Myers, and Shane Wyman. Kelsey Mehling was awarded champion Suffolk in market, and she participated in intermediate showmanship. Sydney Zumwalt received first in her market class and 5th overall. She also moved onto advanced finals in showmanship and received 6th. Macy Myers got 5th in her class of heavyweight Hampshire sheep and got 11th in intermediate showmanship.Shane Wyman received 3rd in his class of heavyweight Hampshire sheep. He then got 2nd in intermediate showmanship, and got 3rd in advanced showmanship. The sheep team as a whole took home 2nd overall chapter group. The swine team was very successful this year. It consisted of Keenan Quintana, Austin Dudley- Nelson, Jammie Baker, Jordan Coburn, Cody Heirendt, John Price, Michael Purkey, Cole Meininger, Logan Vandenack, Morgan Vandenack, Julianna Sullivan, and Mason Tarr. Cody Heirendt received 3rd in her market class. Cole Meininger was awarded 2nd in his market class, and 4th out of 40 in novice showmanship.Juliana Sullivan got 2nd in her market class. Austin Dudley- Nelson got 5th in his market class. Mason Tarr won champion Yorkshire; he also placed 2nd in intermediate showmanship, and 3rd in advanced showmanship. The swine team as a whole took home 2nd overall chapter group. Lastly, the beef team was made up of Keilani Mendenhall, Dyllon Balmer, Daygan Cross, Austin Holt, Clay Telles, Maddie Hill, Jayden Baker, Sydney Zumwalt, Ethan Dunn, Macy Myers, Keenan Quintana, Makena Galimba, and Brian Austin. Keilani, Dyllon, and Daygan exhibited feeder steers, and the others exhibited market steers. Keilani Mendenhall got 3rd in her feeder class. Dyllon Balmer was awarded 5th in his feeder class, and 3rd in novice showmanship. Daygan Cross got 4th in his feeder class. Austin Holt got 4th in the market class. Clay Telles received 3rd in his registered breeding class. Maddie Hill got 2nd in her market class, and 4th overall. Sydney Zumwalt 1st in her market class. Macy Myers got 1st in novice showmanship, 2nd in intermediate showmanship, and 5th in advanced showmanship. Makena Galimba 2nd in her market Class, and 2nd in the commercial heifer class. Mason Tarr received reserve grand champion for his heifer. The beef team as a whole took home 1st overall chapter group.
