Sierra FFA’s participation in the Big Fresno Fair once again has given students an event to showcase their hard work and dedication to their projects and interest in the fields of agriculture. This year chickens, goats, sheep, swine and beef were all brought to the fair and the members had great amounts of success in their market and showmanship classes.
The first week of October Sierra’s chickens were shown by Clayton Collins as well as the goats were shown by Kendall Chrisman and Seth Chrisman. Clayton won Champion and Reserve large for his breeding hens as well as 3rd and 8th and a best in show flag. Kendall and Seth Chrisman’s livestock were given Market Ready recognition. The following week the other livestock species were shown. The sheep team included Emma Actis, Ray Baker, Averi Harrington, Dylan Hatcher, Ann Price, Lilly Sellers, Nickole Witt, and Sydney Wyman. Emma Actis placed Reserve in her breed and 5th in her market class. Ray Baker earned 2nd in his AOB class. Averi Harrington won Reserve Grand Champion AOB and 2nd in her class. Dylan Hatcher received Market Ready recognition. Ann Price received Market Ready recognition. Lilly Sellers earned 1st in her market class. Nickole Witt got 5th and 9th in her market classes. Sydney Wyman won FFA Champion overall in addition to Reserve Supreme overall. The swine team was composed of Morgan Dority, Brandi Hickenbotton, Angolina Perisicone, Ann Price, Jocelynn Rodriguez, and Hayden Tarr. Morgan Dority placed 5th in market. Brandi Hickenbottom won her class. Angolina Perisicone received Market Ready recognition. Ann Price received Market Ready recognition. Jocelynn Rodriguez earned 2nd in her market class. Hayden Tarr won Hampshire Champion and Cross Breed Champion, FFA Grand and Reserve FFA Grand, and Supreme Grand Champion as well as Supreme Reserve Grand Champion. Hayden also donated his Reserve Supreme Champion earnings to the Central Valley Honor Flight which totaled $39,300. Our beef team consisted of Brian Austin, Jayden Baker, Sienna Blair, Makenna Boul, Justin Coburn, Alysha Torri-Davis, Maria Lominchar Galaso, Jesse Heirendt, Nate Killian, and Keilani Mendenhall. Brian Austin recieved Market Ready recognition. Jayden Baker earned Market Ready recognition. Sienna Blair received 5th in her feeder class in addition to 6th in showmanship. Makenna Boul earned 8th in her novice showmanship class and 2nd in her feeder class. Justin Coburn was awarded 2nd in his class as well as 8th in showmanship. Jesse Heirendt was given 1st in her class and 5th overall in market along with 9th overall in showmanship. Alysha Torri-Davis earned 4th in her market class. Maria Lominchar Galaso won her class then Reserve Champion Feeder Steer. Nate Killian earned 1st in his market class. Keilani Mendenhall recieved Market Ready recognition. Overall it was another great year at the Fresno Fair and many of these fine showmen and women look forward to again showing at Chowchilla Fair in the spring.
